The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) on Monday expressed its satisfaction over the appointment of former governors of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN as the minister of Power, Works and Housing and Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi as Minister of Transport.
The National President of NSE, Engr. Ademola Olorunfemi,
who stated this at the 2015 National Engineering press conference held in Akure, the Ondo State capital said the association was ready to work with the duo and also provide technical advices that would help in accelerating infrastructure delivery.
Olorunfemi noted that dearth of infrastructure in the country constitutes impediment to the achievement of our national targets, adding that the present deplorable condition of the ones available seems to further exacerbate the situation.
He, however, said It was regrettable to watch the country lose large scale investments to neighbouring countries on account of decaying infrastructure.
The NSE President said it was satisfied with the appointment of Fashola and Amaechi based on their achievements in term of infrastructures when they were governors of Lagos and Rivers states respectively.
According to him, “Fashola has demonstrated complete understanding of the imperatives of infrastructure delivery, which he tackles creatively. As Governor, he re-engineered Lagos State by provision of Transport infrastructure, Power and Urban renewal, amongst others.
“The same satisfaction applies to the appointment to Amaechi, CON, as Hon. Minister of Transport who initiated the Light Rail Project for Port Harcourt metropolis as Governor of Rivers State.
“NSE will give its full cooperation and support to the Ministers through the senior Engineers who work and supervise in the various sub-sectors and departments of the respective Ministries.”
Olorunfemi charged the government and Nigerians to believe and patronised NSE members rather than consulting foreign experts, saying “we are competent.”
At the one week event with the theme “sunshine 2015”, President Muhammadu Buhari will be honoured as the grand patron of NSE.
Other honourees include Fashola, Governor Olusegun Mimiko, Aare Afe Babalola SAN, and Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
