Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of double standard in the recent judgement that led to the nullification of the election of Mr. Darius Ishaku as Governor of Taraba State.

HURIWA described the judgment of the Governorship Election Tribunal during a chat with newsmen in Abuja as a ‘civilian coup.’

According to the National Coordinator,
HURIWA, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, “INEC should be thoroughly investigated and fish out the officials that are causing confusion in our social life.”

The coordinator who lamented that there has been considerable level of social tension in Taraba State since the judgment wondered how the same INEC that screened and published the name of Ishaku as the flag-bearer of the PDP could make a u-turn at the tribunal to say he was not qualified to run in the election.

“INEC should be investigated for publishing the names of all the candidates that went for the elections and how come the same INEC appeared before the tribunal to say PDP did not have party primaries. So, who were those who authenticated the emergence of the PDP candidate that eventually won the election? Who was the one that posted the names of the candidates on the websites of INEC?"
