Pneumonia, diarrhoea kill 750,000 Nigerian children in 2015,
says experts Paul Obi in Abuja Following the controversy stirred up on the floor of the Senate this week, the Senate on Thursday said it will review holistically the federal government's Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a motion sponsored by Sen. Dino Melaye of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Senate had raised the alarm about the suspected swindling of the federal government by a company named REMITA to the tune of N25 billion daily in the remittance of all revenues accruing to the government.
The Senate on Thursday in Abuja said it would go the whole hog to verify and vet the TSA where all funds accruing to the Federal Government are domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The upper legislative chamber observed that the decision was necessary because of emergencies that could come up, adding "and you need the funds to sort them out immediately."
The chairman, Senate Committee on Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, stated this in a interview with journalists during the celebration of this year's World Pneumonia Day with the theme: "Enhancing Child's Health through pneumonia protection, prevention and treatment."
