Buhari’s Wife Tasks Govs’ Wives On Conduct Of Free Test For Women

By Emmanuel Nzomiwu, Enugu
Wife of President Muhamadu Buhari, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has tasked wives of all the 36 state governors in the federation to ensure women in their respective states undergo free health tests in the ongoing “Health Screening Initiative programme” for Nigerian women.
Mrs. Buhari gave the advice on Thursday while flagging off Enugu State chapter of the programme at Queens School Enugu.
She explained that the initiative was introduced as a measure to enhance healthy living among Nigerian women, stressing that the tests are free and all the medical practitioners and other medical staff involved in the project are rendering voluntary service,
to ensure the programme gets to all nook and crannies of the country.
Mrs. Buhari extolled the Enugu state Governor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his wife, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi for the various logistics support that they provided to ensure the success of the flag off of the initiative in Enugu State.
She tasked all the state governors’ wives from the South East zone who graced the occasion and the rest throughout the federation to copy the Enugu state example, because improved health and welfare of women and children must be a collective responsibility of both the federal government and the states.
“The present administration under President Buhari is a government of unity, love, peace, and support. The presence of the wives of governors outside this zone testifies their collective responsibility in improving welfare and health of women and children in the thirty six states of the country” Mrs. Buhari said.
In her address, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, assured Mrs. Buhari that she would replicate the exercise in the 17 council areas in Enugu state.
“Your Excellency, today you have inspired us. To this end, my office has perfected plans to replicate this screening exercise in the 17 local government areas of Enugu state. This task without doubts is enormous. Your Excellency, we count on you for support,” Mrs. Ugwuanyi said.
She stressed that the present administration in the country under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari considers the welfare of women and children as one of the top priority of his governance.
