The Athletic Federation of Nigeria has expressed profound gratitude to the minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, and other citizens of the country for their concern and support when a member of the board, Ken Anugweje, a professor, was kidnapped.
The AFN’s anti-doping head, who was kidnapped in Port Harcourt last Wednesday, was released in the early hours of Friday.
According to a statement by the federation’s Head of Communication and Media,
Olukayode Thomas, the minister did his utmost best for the release of the professor of science.
AFN also thanked Nigerians for their prayers and concern during Mr. Anugweje’s travails in the hands of his kidnappers.
The AFN however appealed to the country’s youths to stay away from crime while also calling on corporate organisations in the country to invest in the development of the youths.
“We want to use this opportunity to appeal to corporate organisations in the country to listen to the plea of the minister to invest in sports in the country,” the statement said.
“When there are good investments in sports, the youths will be more engrossed in the game and thereby shun crime.
“An idle hand is the devil’s workshop and with proper investments in the youths, issue of crimes will be a thing of the past.
“The youths should also try to channel their energy to other positive adventures because crime does not pay.”
The statement further disclosed that Mr. Anugweje was gradually getting over the incident and would hopefully return to work soon.
